Synopsis:

The central theme of the film is the ill effects of drugs on individuals and society. No child is born an addict. The film tries to entertainingly put across information on how one picks up this habit and its consequences. It also tries to show how parents, friends and teachers can help eradicate this menace.

Mahesh (Jeetendra), an orphan brought up in an orphanage, accidentally dashes his cycle with the cycle of Reshma (Sumalatha), also an orphan brought up in a missionary school. This chance meeting leads to love and marriage. For a long time, Mahesh looks for a job but gets one only on the day his son born. He, therefore, names his son Lucky. Both husband and wife work hard, Mahesh in his office and Reshma by stitching clothes. They dream of giving the best to their child which they were denied as orphans.

Years pass and Lucky grows to be a brilliant student and an all-rounder with a talent for music and dance. He is loved by many girls in college but his sweetheart is his childhood friend Lata. Unfortunately, he comes in contact with a gang of addicted students and picks up the habit. One of the boys, Mushtak, himself a drug addict, takes a liking for Lucky and pleads with him to leave drugs but it is too late. One day, in his attempt to dissuade Lucky from drugs, he meets with an accident and dies. This has a sobering effect on Lucky and for the sake of Mushtak and his beloved Lata stops taking drugs with great difficulty. However, the other addicts continue their attempt to bring him into their fold and create a misunderstanding between him and his father, who, in a fit of anger, turns him out his house. Unhappy and lonely, Lucky once again falls prey to drugs.
