Star for a Star

All stars have fans. But Shahrukh Khan fans are special. They are loyal and will do anything to define fanaticism! We found one such fan who expresses her love for Shahrukh Khan by naming a star after him! 

So who is this special person? She is from Australia - Sandi. So what provoked her to name a star after Shahrukh Khan?

" I was looking for something special for Shahrukh's birthday, in appreciation of his awesome talent. I read that the International Astronomical Union had named an asteroid "Kalinga" (which was Asoka territory!) and I remembered a company in Australia that would name a star after anyone you wanted, and I thought that this is what I'm looking for! So I did it!"

So who is she? And how did she become a Shahrukh Khan fan?

"My husband and I are both Australians with no previous Asian connection whatsoever, and have been living in U.A.E for the last 9 years. I was always aware of Shah Rukh thru MTV etc. I thought he was just a cocky little show-off ! Since then, I have read about him, and seen him in interviews and realized that was just his on-screen personality ("Shah Rukh the Entertainer"). I've come to love his "attitude" and personality, so different from "Shah Rukh the Entertainer", which just shows what a brilliant actor he is - he can be whatever he wants on film.

Her first SRK movie... and then begins the craze...

The first movie I saw SRK in -  KOYLA.  I will never forget the sight of him, clothes on fire, outrunning a moving train! And the incredibly dramatic fiery climax of the movie, with those awesome close-ups of his face, covered in blood, sweat and tears, as it so often is....I LOVE this movie!

Then Sony TV showed KKHH earlier this year and I thought, no way am I going to waste 3 hours on a movie, I can't even understand, but I'll watch just 30 minutes to see what all the fuss is about Shah Rukh Khan. That grew into another 30 minutes, then another...I couldn't tear myself away. I think I got hooked right then.

I watched Mohabbatein on video and cried all the way thru, even though I didn't know what was being said...Shah Rukh was just so brilliant, in a mature, understated and restrained performance, which so moved me. I knew he could do it!

So how do you describe Shahrukh Khan?

He can be tender or tough, sweet or bitter, romantic or brutal, shy or brash, but always The Sexiest Man Alive!

Any other movies close to your heart?

1,2 Ka 4. - the first SRK movie I saw in cinema, I simply loved it. I still reckon the music CD is the best CD i have. The theatre attendant was going to put me in the theatre where an American movie was showing ... he couldn't believe it, a white girl, going to a Hindi movie.

Describe your movie collection...

I bought every SRK movie I could get on video, then we bought a DVD player, so now I'm trying to get them all on DVD, with subtitles. My husband often watches with me and even he can see the MAGIC that Sharu brings to a scene. When SRK is not onscreen, everything just falls flat, which is why I'll NEVER watch any other Hindi film except Shah Rukh's. Why waste 3 hours?

How does Shahrukh play a role in your daily life?

Sometimes we play a Shah Rukh song before we go to work, and my husband sings "Chal Chaiyya Chaiyya" and "Ek Shararat Hone Ko Hai" at work and the Indians he works with think it's hilarious. He has become quite the expert on Hindi movies, cuz he remembers what I tell him.

What do you love most about Shah Rukh?

Everything really: his energy, talent, passion, enthusiasm, personality and the way he speaks about his family. He may not be the best dancer in the world, but doesn't he LOVE it? Makes me happy just to watch him having so much fun.

Which part of his body do you love best?

Difficult choice between his lush eyelashes (which totally mesmerizes me) and his beautifully expressive hands. Even his feet are gorgeous: beautiful high arch. Of course, his dimples, his hair, his smile and those eyes that are sometimes so sad that you just want to hug him and make all the hurt go away forever.

Favorite movies?

Nearly all, but especially Koyla, 1 2 Ka 4, Mohabbatein, Dil Se, Duplicate, English Babu Desi Mem, and Anjaam and Chaahat which I haven't seen with subtitles.

What do you hate about SRK movies?

When he's off screen! and when he gets beaten up :(

Your favorite SRK Songs?

Among my special favourites are: 

"Yeh Kaali Kaali Aankhen" from "Baazigar" (can't stop singing this. Shah Rukh is so bouncy and happy) also "Kitaben Bahut Si" from "Baazigar", Come On Baby from "English Babu, Desi Mem", "Ladna Jaghana" and "Ek Shararat", "Kab Maine Yeh Socha Ta"(my husbands' fav) and "Wah ji Wah" from "Duplicate" and the Title tune and "I'm the Best" from PBDHH, "Apun Bola" from "Josh" (his own voice) , all from"1,2 Ka 4" and "Dil Se", "Do Sadiyon" from "Gaja Gamini" and "Abh Hain Neende Kisse" from "Zamaana Deewana".  I have videotaped all my favorite songs fromSRK movies so that they are all together and easy to find if I have 30 minutes or so free.

I'm just so proud to be Shahrukh Khan's fan!
