| They rolled out the red carpet and welcomed
their guests and stars to the 2003 ZEE CINE AWARDS, held at
the prestigious Tulip Star Hotel, Juhu. Performances by Aishwarya
Rai, Shamita Shetty and Esha Deol delighted the audiences,
whilst Arbaaz Khan and wife, Maliaka Arora-Khan hosted the
show. The jury consisted of many yesteryear names including
Feroz Khan and Rakhee, and also our very own Komal Nahta!
That Devdas swept the awards was only anticipated, winning
in Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Director categories but
to name a few. However, the surprise, or rather shock of the
evening was Madhuri Dixit losing out on Best Supporting Actress
for her portrayal of Chandramukhi in Devdas. Instead Sushmita
Sen walked away with the award for her role in Filhaal. This
has caused quite a bit of a stir with a number of web polls
resulting in an almost unanimous public support for Madhuri
winning the award. However, it's the jury that decides and
speculation of Rakhee gunning for her daughter's film Filhaal
winning some awards will certainly raise a few eyebrows.
Zee Cine Awards 2003 will certainly make the history books
for joint awarding Best Female Playback Singers to Kavita
Subramaniam and Shreya Gosai for their efforts in Dola Re
Dola from Devdas. Also Nadeem-Shravan (Raaz) and A.R. Rehman
(Saathiya) were joint winners for Best Music, which was unsuspecting
from a hopeful Ismail Darbar for his musical score, Devdas.
Despite Devdas winning ample awards, The Legend Of Bhagat
